Advising Agreement: Getting on the same page with your advisorOnce you have secured an advisor, you want to be sure that both of you are on the same page about your expectations for what the relationship will entail. Too often I hear from colleagues who say they didn't even know that they were a student's advisor until they received some official communication about IRB or a letter of recommendation. Avoid that problem with a respectful but frank discussion. The advising agreement provided here is a template for a discussion for IDS minor students, but can be modified to guide any advising relationship.
